“Труд Освобождает”
To reduce a concept to its basic foundation is the artist’s ultimate challenge. Minimalism is a perpetual struggle. In Manual Labor, Iren explores the deception of simplicity. She juxtaposes vibrant action with calibrated reservation; cacophonous repetition with particular exploration. She challenges the viewer to extract the essential elements of movement. The architecture of the body is surrendered to its bare necessities. The dialogue is simultaneously internal and external – Iren converses with the public, but also with herself. Contrasting settings frame the performance, inviting the audience to question the relationship of the subject and the plot. Light versus dark; concrete versus limestone; what is revealed, and what is hidden?
